In this Zine I wanted to tell "The History of Video Games" and the way that I chose to do that was mainly through visuals with very few pieces of text which serve more as images than conveying information through language.
Each page of the zine is a different console generation that has already passed starting from the Atari and arcade cabinets all the way to the Xbox one and PlayStation 4. A few key points that I would like to focus on is the change where at page 4 there is a change from the video game world being dominated by one idea and instead having a war between consoles for what should be driving the industry forward. I also illustrate how these console wars go with the gradual shrinking of Sega into nothingness and Nintendo seemingly separating once Xbox and PlayStation start going at it. I also chose to use less character icons as time went on for each company as the focus of the industry became less on the mascot characters at around the Xbox era with PlayStation never really getting a single official mascot, rather having several games that could be seen as trying to fill that position.
I feel like I started out very strong and then as time went on there was less change in the video game industry so it felt as if the art itself wasn't changing so I had to emphasize the turbulence in the aesthetic of the individual systems as much as I could while still keeping the same general idea. In the future I feel like I could plan a little bit further ahead because my planning was very loose by the time I reached the last page, and I didn't even plan a cover page at first.
